What DBT Tracks

India's Direct Benefit Transfer system routes benefits directly to citizens' bank accounts. The DBT portal tracks all 319 schemes across 54 central ministries:

Scheme Type Examples
Cash transfers PM-KISAN (farmer income support), MGNREGA wages, LPG subsidy
Scholarships Pre-matric, post-matric, merit scholarships for SC/ST/OBC
Pensions IGNOAPS (old age), widow, disability pension
Health PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat) insurance claims
Housing PMAY-Gramin housing instalments
Food NFSA grain entitlement (in-kind via PDS)

Scale as of 2024: ₹38+ lakh crore transferred since 2013.


How to Access

Live Dashboard 🟢

  1. Go to dbtbharat.gov.in
  2. View aggregate DBT dashboard — total beneficiaries, amount, schemes
  3. Click on a MinistrySchemeState to drill down
  4. Most schemes show: Beneficiaries (total/women/SC/ST), Amount disbursed

Downloading Data 🟢

  1. In the DBT portal: "Reports""Scheme-wise Report"
  2. Select scheme → Select state → Choose year
  3. Some reports are downloadable as CSV; others require browser copy

Exercise 4.6 — How Many PM-KISAN Beneficiaries in Your State?

Goal: Use the DBT dashboard to analyse PM-KISAN coverage.

  1. Go to dbtbharat.gov.in
  2. Click "PM-KISAN" (or search schemes)
  3. View state-wise beneficiary count
  4. Compare your state to neighbouring states

Questions: - [ ] How many farmers in your state receive PM-KISAN? - [ ] Does this match roughly with the number of farm households in the 2011 Census? - [ ] Are there states with very low coverage? Why might that be? - [ ] Total amount disbursed to your state since inception?
